This typically manifests in the the most raw, liquid form, but has been known to display itself in other fashions. Fog, steam, condensation, and many other forms of water are all within Nova’s arsenal. Additionally, she will someday be able to control the molecules to the point of being able to freeze them into a solid form. While she can’t actually do anything after they are frozen (aside from thawing them back out), it’s an aspect of her ability that she desires greatly to be able to do, if only to feel another connection with her sister. One of the more cruel aspects of hydrokinesis that Nova is capable of is using the water in someone’s body to drown them, though this is not an ability that is put into practice.
If Nova is around any water when she’s upset, be it bodies of water or glasses of water, they are prone to sprouting up like a geyser and shooting in the direction of whoever has upset her. Unfortunately, sometimes there isn’t any aim involved and everyone in the vicinity gets a complimentary shower. In order to maintain her full strength, it is necessary for Nova to drink more than the recommended amount of water per day - and the more she uses her ability, the more she needs to drink in order to replenish her reserves. Excess use of hydrokinesis leaves Nova with a serious case of dry mouth and a splitting migraine that can knock her on her ass for days on end. More severe cases can leave her with bouts of nausea and a hospital stay, but that has only happened once in her life and she doesn’t intend to let it happen again.

overall personality ♦ Acting the part of a princess is nothing new to Nova. She takes after her older sister in a lot of aspects of her life, from being able to get people to give her what she wants to working hard for it. Nova is someone that is used to getting her way by just about any means necessary and that, in itself, makes her a bit of a spoiled mean girl. In saying that, she cares tremendously about certain people in her life, about the people who have shown themselves to be a constant presence and a source of support for her. Though she doesn’t show it, Nova is afraid of rejection and often finds herself concerned with the thoughts of other people. This is one of the biggest reasons that her sexuality is something that she keeps tightly under wraps. She is extremely protective of her sister and will do anything for her. Unlike her sister who is more into the party scene, Nova has found herself to be something of a social butterfly and someone who puts herself out there. It’s not unusual to find herself front and center with her sister when there is a party going on. Nova is by no means an introvert and takes comfort in the people that she surrounds herself with.

overall history ♦ Noah Pennbrook was a rich boy and came filled with all of the advantages of a rich-boy lifestyle. He never wanted for anything and never really had to work for anything in his life, not even the ivy-league universities that he attended. He might have studied and put his nose to the book, but it all seemed to come effortlessly to him. It wouldn’t be until he had become an investment banker on Wall Street that he realized he wanted a woman on his arm. She didn’t have to be a powerful woman, but she did have to be beautiful. Instead of taking the time to form a connection with anyone, Noah used an escort service and met Natasha. In no time at all, they had signed all of the necessary paperwork to become husband and wife and, only a short year afterward, welcomed Lyric into their life. Their first daughter was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth and, when she was three, Nova came into the picture.
Nova was born with a head of bright red hair and was, for the most part, a well-behaved baby. From the moment she was able to walk and talk, she was glued to Lyric’s side. It was clear that their parents didn’t really care about them, nor did they care to actually be parents. They had given birth to their daughters, but actually taking the time to raise them was something that they had people for. The hired help became the family that they might have had a desire for. Natasha and Noah ensured that their children were dressed in the most lavish clothes that money could buy, acting as though their daughters were the perfect dolls to be dressed and presented to every party that the Pennbrooks attended.
While it was true that Lyric and Nova had everything that they could have wanted for, Nova felt the lack of a connection with her parents keenly. She was grateful to have Lyric in her life, but there was a sense of nurturing that one could have only gotten from her parents. Still, her sister was her world and from a young age knew that she would do anything to protect her from harm. It was on vacation in Switzerland when Nova saw something truly magical happen. The snowfall was beautiful and the right consistency to build snowmen. The girls had been outside playing when a sheet of snow fell from the roof and onto Lyric. Panicked, Nova rushed to get help - but found that no help would come from her parents. Realizing that they were passed out with the smell of liquor thick on their breath, she rushed back outside and attempted to start digging her sister from the snow. And then suddenly the snow was shifted out of the way and Lyric emerged safely. It was the moment that Lyric’s ability manifested and the sisters never told their parents about the incident.
When Lyric was fourteen, Nova had another scare. Her sister had ended up in the hospital due to a mishap with her abilities. It was a moment of true fear of Nova, terrified yet again at the aspect of losing her best friend. The thought was unbearable and it seemed to be the thing that activated her own ability. The snow that had been falling that day hardened into hail. But Nova didn’t realize that it was her who had changed the weather. The specialist that the hospital had called in explained that there was a special place for Lyric to go in order to harness her ability so that these kinds of accidents didn’t happen anymore. It was nothing for Noah and Natasha to say that it was fine for her to. Getting rid of one child seemed like the best idea for them, though they would have been elated to get rid of both at the same time. Though Nova hated the idea of being away from her sister, she knew that it was in Lyric’s best interest.
Losing her sister was difficult despite keeping in touch by writing one another every week. It wasn’t until just before Nova’s sixteenth birthday that her abilities truly manifested. Her parents were in the process of getting drunk, nothing new for a Friday night. What was new was the fact that they were doing indoors instead of going out for a night on the town. They were just as useless as she always knew and the anger that she felt in the realization was something that seemed to trigger her powers. In a single moment, they were taking a drink and the next it had exploded in their faces. The only culprit was Nova in the room. So frustrated, the water faucet exploded next, properly soaking some of their more expensive pieces of artwork in the process. As Noah and Natasha realized that their second daughter also had these abilities, they made the phone call to the representative from Louisiana who had come for Lyric and, when Nova was fourteen, she was sent to join her sister at Primrose.
Arriving there was like a breath of fresh air. Out from beneath the thumb of her parents and free to dress as she wanted and be who she wanted. Most importantly, she was back with her sister. Primrose was like every boarding school that she had ever seen, complete with the Ice Queen that happened to be her sister. It was here at Primrose that Nova started to come to a realization that she didn’t solely enjoy the company of men. However, she’s also incredibly aware of the stigma that comes with being who she is and knowing full well that if the news were to reach her parents, they were that much more likely to disown the daughter that they obviously didn’t want in the first place. For the moment, she is content to continue exploring the limits of her ability and continue to build her bond with her sister.
